MIDTERM ESSAY

This essay was in response to the midterm exam question, “If race is a social construct, then why does systemic racism continue to exist today?” In this paper, I discuss the origins of racism, how our societal structure has contributed to the problem, and how Derrick Bell’s theory of “interest convergence” may be the most significant reason racism continues today.
